I bought a Chinese paddle with 4 rubbers from zeropong

I bought a blade/combo with two rubbers. Aces Pro and 4 Kings Pro. I also bought Red Diamond and Black power as separate sheets from zeropong. Zeropong shipped quickly. I want to see what Chinese rubbbers are all about. I will post a review when I have played with the Chinese paddle a bit. I spent 88 USD on 4 rubbers and one blade. I am not expecting much. I just want to know. If nothing else I will have something to compare against when I do my rubber testing.
For real play I am considering a much more conservative upgrade. I may replace my Scramble 1.5mm with Mark V max but I will use the Mark V max on my FH and Mark V 1.5 mm on my BH. I have amazed myself with what I can do with Mark V 1.5 mm but I know there is better stuff out there.
Today I bought a can of acetone for removing rubber. It will probably last me a long time. The glue is relatively expensive and I don't know why. I am going to play with the rubber scraps to see if Elmers rubber glue can be removed with acetone without damaging the blade or the sponge. Elmers rubber glue is relatively cheap compared to BTY free chack. I will practice on the Chines $14 US rubbers.
I have yet to buy BTY free chack. The big question is whether or not to buy some T05 before the price rise. The question I ask myself is that will T05 still be the best in a year when I am ready for it. I also need rubber protectors.

1. buy before the price rise
Submitted by TT energy on 25 August 2010 - 10:28pm.The gambler aces cover looks kind of funny hey but I saw it is very cheap at megaspin anyway.
1. buy before the price rise because it is not an illusion. 2. I have used acetone and it is stinky stuff make sure you use gloves out doors 3. have fun 4. Pnatchwey sounds like more of an equipment junky every day!!!!!!! welcome to the club mate

Submitted by pnachtwey on 26 August 2010 - 1:23am.One sheet or two? Probably 2.
where do you store your rubbers so they don't get old and crack?
Do you wrap use older rubbers in plastic bag in case you want to use them again?
I know, the US$ has dropped to a 15 year low against the yen. I was wondering how long our relatively low prices would last.
"I have used acetone and it is stinky stuff make sure you use gloves out doors"
Crap, you got me thinking. We have a volatile fluids locker ( this is required by the fire marshal ) at work and an ventilation hood ( also required ) with fan that pushes the fumes outside. Usually this is used for cleaning circuit boards. I bet if I looked in the locker we already have acetone. Oh well, now we have more. I forgot all about what I have at work because I don't make the circuit boards anymore. I wasn't going to do this at home because all my TT stuff is at work.
"Have fun"
Always. The big thing is that I spend less than I would at a gym and I have lost about 15 pounds since last year this time when I started playing again.
"4. Pnatchwey sounds like more of an equipment junky every day!!!!!!!"
A TT junkie yes but not an EJ yet. I still play with what I have for a few months before changing equipment. There is no way I can keep up with you. In this case the Chinese paddle is something that I will try out on the Newgy. If I don't like it I will donate it to the paddle pool at work for others to use.
I am really interested in the tacky vs grippy thing. Now that I can brush loop a little ( it is easier against the Newgy than a real person ) I need to try it out with a tacky rubber to see if there is a difference.
I still need to get the laser pointer and mirror. There will be more time for that when the weather here gets poor.
I bought two more T05
Submitted by pnachtwey on 26 August 2010 - 7:33am.I called the Paddle Palace to order the Mark V max to replace the JUIC Scramble 1.5mm. I asked about the BTY price rises and they confirmed it so I bought two more T05. Now I just have to become good enough to be worthy to use them. I know the current T05 has be mistreated and simply used as ball whackers with little real looping. I can actually loop now but I will graduate to a thicker Mark V for now. Eventually I will get around to the T05 again. I am looking forward to trying the Mark V max on my FH. Since I ordered more that 130 $US I got a 5% discount so the T05s cost about 53.20 $US.
BTW, my Chinese paddle came in. zeropong.com does a nice job, fast, inexpensive, and the paddle comes with a case an rubber protectors. I will try it out against the Newgy tonight. The rubber is tacky but it will only hold up the ball for at most a second before falling.
zero pong how to choose grip
Submitted by TT energy on 26 August 2010 - 5:37pm.I know you buy a lot from zero pong how do you choose a grip from them?
on the topic:
thing is even if you never want to use the tenergy again you will be able to sell at the price you bought it if not more. You can not do this with just any ping pong paddle. I keep all my rubbers in a dark cool cuboard that has some ventilation. Kind of lucky my kitchen pantry has a little insectnetted window at the top so I have all chemicals there and all rubbers there. It is totally dark with enough air from the top to keep it perfect. I always put my used rubbers in the plastic covers that packed the original products. I don't throw away any packaging just reuse it and often even use it as repackaging to sticky tape together when I post stuff out. the carboard is strong and the right size for blades etc. personally I would never use any cleaners on tenergy because i believe a bit of sweat is fine. If you dont like that just use water and wipe it off. I always rub my rubbers on my blade on my damp shirt briefly between points and then on a dry part of my shirt. I do it softly!!!! And my rubbers as a result always play the same. If it is a humid day I just give a soft rub on the driest part of my clothing. Because damp rubber is almost impossible to loop with. When it is ridiculously humid I baby roll my loops back.
Buying T05 for future use. Rubber maintenance.
Submitted by pnachtwey on 27 August 2010 - 1:27am."thing is even if you never want to use the tenergy again you will be able to sell at the price you bought it if not more" I doubt it. I don't know of anybody that use T05 in the east side of the Portland TT club. The comments I get are T05 is too fast or too difficult. I didn't buy the T05 with the idea of reselling. "personally I would never use any cleaners on tenergy because i believe a bit of sweat is fine. If you dont like that just use water and wipe it off." Sweat isn't good. The pH of sweat is acidic. Normal water has a pH of 7 but sweat has a pH of 4.5 to 5.5. This can't be good. At work the people that assemble the brushed metal controllers wear globes because the oil on the tip of the figures can etch in figure prints. I use filtered water or filtered water with a little soap to remove the oils. I also have some Paddle Palace paddle cleaner and I think I have found out what it is. I do not get the wood wet because the plys may de-laminate or warp the wood. I have a special soft non scratch cloth that I use to clean the paddle. I can keep the cloth in my rear pocket. Months ago I had ripped by red T05 on the corner of the table. The rip was close to the edge so it didn't bother me but I was looking for an excuse to replace it with something. I still play with the T05 from time to time with the robot. I don't want to play too long because there is a difference on how I close the paddle with the T05 vs the 'Ball Whacker'.
Review, Gambler Arylate Carbon+Aces Pro+Four Kings Pro
Submitted by pnachtwey on 27 August 2010 - 3:19pm.Paddle is a bargain if the paddle is an OK setup for you. It cost $55. You can see in the picture that the tacky rubbers attract dirt lint dust etc. The good part is that the rubbers are tacky which is why I bought them. I can press the paddle down on a ball and lift the paddle and the ball will go up a about 100 cm before falling off. Also, a ball resting on the paddle does not roll around. It just sticks to the rubber. The sponge is very firm with very small bubbles and the top sheet seams to be more like the a soft rubber shoe inset. My Gambler paddle is spiny like my BTY TBS+2xT05 but is isn't near as 'fast'. The Gambler paddle is definitely optimal close to the table as it takes a lot more effort to hit the ball back 2 meters back than my TBS+2xT05. The Gambler paddle and my BTY are similar in weight. The BTY paddle weighs about 181 gr and the Gambler paddle weighs 178 gr so I think this paddle is heavy. I prefer about 160 gr like my Tibhar Samsonov Alpha. The Gambler blade is supposed to be lighter than the Samsonov Alpha by 4 gr so this means that the dense sponge of the Gambler rubbers adds a lot of weight like the T05 rubbers.
Even though this paddle is a good deal I don't think I would have liked it 4 or 5 months ago. I don't think I would be any more ready for the Gambler paddle than the BTY paddle because the Gambler paddle is affected by incoming spin just like the BTY paddle. Lifting chops is similar to lift chops with the BTY in that it takes an accurate estimate of the up swing to get the ball over the net. The big difference is that the Gambler paddle is not as bouncy so the ball rarely goes long. The BTY and Gambler paddle require a more accurate estimate of the back spin than my Tibar Samsonov Alpha with Mark V 1.5 FH and Scramble 1.5mm BH.
To test the Gambler paddle I return about 1000 balls from the Newgy. I went through sets of 100 balls. FH and BH, close, mid and long. I set up returning back spin serves, I even tried chops. I also served all the stray balls back into the Newgy.
I like the ease at which I could hit breaking loops but didn't like the extra effort it takes to hit the ball 2 meters back. My style of play is to be close to the table so this isn't much of a problem for me. What I found amazing is that for some reason I could hit some nasty chops and I know this paddle isn't meant for that.
Blocking was easy. I don't normally block. Even shots I should block I counter with topspin. I block only out of desperation.
One thing I wanted to test out is serving. It is the main reason I got the paddle. I wanted to know if there was a difference between serving with a tacky Chinese rubber vs a grippy T05. If there is a difference I am not able to detect it.
Something tells me that friction is friction. Tacky friction and grippy friction is the same. I do believe the Gambler rubbers have more friction at extremely low speeds than what the T05 does, but at even at low impact speeds, like when serving, the difference is not there.
Overall I think the Gambler 'speed' ratings are over rated compared to the spin ratings compared to my other paddles but the spin rating are accurate. I don't care about the 'speed' ratings because I prefer a high spin to speed ratio. I found it very easy to hit breaking loops with the Gambler paddle. It is much easier than with my Tibhar Samsonov Alpha paddle.
The Aces Pro and Four Kings Pro are similar. It is hard to see a difference between the rubber and sponge. The difference is much like described on the zeropong website. The Aces Pro is faster with less spin and the Four Kings is slower with more spin and control. Even though these rubbers aren't fast I like the Four Kings rubber because of the extra spin.
Over all I view this paddle as a BIG step towards the BTY paddle in that it is similar expect in terms of 'speed'. I would not recommend this as a rookie paddle as it is too sensitive to incoming spin. My Samsonov Alpha paddle is much better. For an equivalent price I recommend the JUIC Light Offense III paddle with JUIC Spark rubber. When I get better I think I will chose a lighter rubber like a Nimbus Soft on my way to T05.
Now how do I post a picture using this text editor.

I will do this the way I have always done it.
buy ping pong paddle with grip zeropong
Submitted by TT energy on 29 August 2010 - 10:59pm.So you like to buy ping pong paddles with less or more grip from zeropong ?
I like everything about Chinese rubbers except anykind of finishing or attacking loop or drive or smash. It is the same as when I go anything slower than a timo boll spirit. I think the spirit with tenergy 05 is as slow as I can go before my shots become to easy to get back when someone backs up from the table. Nothing I hate more than not being able to belt the ball past the player. I have actually since I have started reusing my ishlion started eyeing off the brand new primorac carbon as my next possible blade instead of the boll blades.
Is anybody out there? Today I played with my Ball Whacker.
Submitted by pnachtwey on 2 September 2010 - 2:31pm.My sparring partner and I agreed that the Gambler paddle has more spin/sting than my Ball Whacker. It is time to upgrade the rubber. I bought Mark V max to replace the Scramble. The big question I have is will the Mark V max play as well as the Gambler Aces Pro.
BTW, the Paddle Palace didn't have any BTY Free Chack so I bought some Tibhar glue. I also bought some Elmers rubber glue. I am going to experiment with the Elmer's rubber glue on scraps before using it to attach a rubber to a paddle. Elmer's rubber glue is cheap by comparison.
I think I may have screwed up by not getting some Spin Art too. Oh well.
I had fun and played well with the Gambler paddle. I may turn to the dark side.
One more thing. My new avatar shows me balancing a ball on my T05. I was trying to get the ball right in front of my face with me staring at the ball as if I am trying to intimidate and to my bidding. It was hard to balance the ball and take the picture at the same time. It would be easy with my Gambler paddle because it is so tacky the ball doesn't roll.
pink floyd?
Submitted by TT energy on 2 September 2010 - 4:53pm.no probably not. The site has been a touch quiet, not sure if because I changed the title to "table tennis games" tennis de masa. I was trialling to see if the site would get more busy but obviously not.
mark V is the classic of all time rubbers. quite nice with speed glue. Isnt elmers a speed glue as in it has voc in it?
Elmer's Speed glue has VOC? It isn't on the label :)
Submitted by pnachtwey on 3 September 2010 - 5:21am.Perhaps that is what they by n-heptane and petroleum distillates. I haven't looked. Does the ITTF have a list of banned glues? I guess the ITTF expects TT players to be chemist as well. I bought the Elmer's Craft Bond Rubber Cement in the arts and crafts section of a department store.
The label said it was acid free and photo safe.
Now it looks like I have some speed glue to try. In my 35+ year absence from TT I missed the whole speed glue era and have been deprived of the whole experience. I won't use it on my good paddles.
Yes, I am a Pink Floyd fan since the Dark Side of the Moon album I got back in high school a long long long time ago. I bought "The Wall" as soon as it came out. I now have the DVD too but they changed some of the songs :( and I like the original versions.
Haven't you noticed my signature on mytt?
"Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see"
I better not have to explain where this line is from.
That is a dig at the ignorance and mysticism I see on that forum. I use that line on the engineering forums too. So far no one on the mytt forum has objected but the engineers knew what I meant right away.
I saw floyd in concert
Submitted by TT energy on 3 September 2010 - 5:26am.about 20 years ago I had all the albums and rare ones too, I played their songs as well. Huge band, I don't listen anymore because I love new sounds. When they were newer there was nothing like them.
I still love their stuff but it falls into the classics which I rarely can bare to go down memory lane all the time with.
banned glues
Submitted by Thaidog on 4 September 2010 - 7:09am.It seems the ITTF does indeed want you to be a chemist... and a lawyer to be able to find and understand the rules. Really they want to make sure you have no "VOCs" in the glue which boils down to anything like n-heptane that is a hydrocarbon they don't want you to use. That means you can't use elemers rubber cement or bestine rubber cement or it's technically illegal. I used some Bestine today to glue an old sheet back on because I did not want to waste my Butterfly free chack... not to mention it glues better and peels off without ripping up my koto plies on my ALC.
glue
Submitted by barkj on 4 September 2010 - 7:57am.im trying the tibah tuning extra process which i think is legal BUT it does change the original characteristics of the rubber so can not be i imagine....anyway, it is faster, but i reckon it has less spin...probably cuz i left the rubber to come down from the doming for 4 days i dont know...think i just need a new sheet of energy
been spending more time pretending to be pink floyd than tt

Funny, I laughed lots
Submitted by pnachtwey on 4 September 2010 - 12:42pm.I haven't paid any attention to what Lady Gaga does though.
That is interesting equipment you have there.
I played the guitar once in the distance past in a galaxy far far away. I still have my thing hollow body Gibson with twin pickups. My guitar teacher tried to teach me how to become a studio musician. That means you have to read music and play music right the first time. I was pretty good but not good enough. It was clear to me that mechanically playing music was not where the money and demand is and I didn't have the natural feel.
A good musician needs to be almost spontaneous and be able to improvise or jam. I could not. The engineering gene soon dominated the music and TT gene but I am OK with that. Everything turned out as it should but music and TT were left behind.
I have subscribed to your ( Boz's ) YouTube channel. Sometimes I think you are nuts but I am sure the voices in you head tell you you aren't. We are going to have a channel too soon. I will let you know but it will be geeky.
Back to TT. Water based glue is too expensive relative to Elmer's. I am sure I used Elmer's back when I was in college because it was cheap but that was before it was called speed glue. I/we didn't know any better or any different. I was a poor pathetic college student then that couldn't afford much of anything.
I have yet to change any rubbers on my paddles. I have a Black Power, Red Diamond, 2xT05 and a Mark V max which I plan to put on next. The last rubber I changed was 35+ years ago and it was blue Sriver. I don't remember how thick.
Next week I will change the Scramble rubber for the Mark V max. I will use Mark V max for my FH but I think I will eventually use the Mark V max on my BH and try the Chinese rubber including Thaidog's suggestion of Galaxy Apollo. My sparring partner needs to have his rubber re-glued because it is peeling off from hitting the paddle on the table while doing back spin pushes. I plan to use the Elmer's glue on my sparring partners paddle. We are below 1600 so I don't think anybody will notice, care or bother to check. The president of the Portland TT club estimated that I am about 1000-1200.
I have enough acetone to remove a whole lot of rubber but limited amount of water based glue.
It is labor day weekend here. I took today, Friday, off too to make it a 4 day weekend. I plan to go to Eugene Or to see my parents but I also play to see what the Eugene table tennis club is like.
my current passions - life story
Submitted by TT energy on 5 September 2010 - 6:54am.Thanks for subscribing, and glad you laughed for whatever reason, with me or at me, I don't care obviously.
Shame you don't play anymore. I played and recorded music for about 10 years, painted and exhibited visual art for about 10 years, played table tennis getting close to 10 years. They are 3 sensual activities for me that all hold a similar kind of passionate state. I go through intense phases and cool of periods. I rarely played any music for the last 10 years and painting almost totally stopped. But when I was an artist I also loved making crazy video. So the video part has returned to the centre of my passion. The table tennis part I must admit is about 30% of the drive that I had. The music side is about 80% of the drive.
So right now my passion is roughly 30% table tennis 70% youtube video/music.
I want to get collaboration going on youtube and I would like to expand to a greater audience. My current videos are very draft like. I am just testing things out such as how programs work how youtube works how audiences react etc. I still don't feel like I have found an area I am totally happy with.
In my table tennis I am happy at my current level 50% in the A grade. With minimal effort. I am happy with any of my offensive blades with 05 and 64, but have a variety of cheap backhand rubbers to use up.
The website has a few bugs I need to work on such as images have disappeared from products in the shop area for no apparent reason. And also get the site back how it was set up before the crash. But I am so addicted with making video I am only coming on here to check comments, new topics posted and fill out orders. In the future I will get around to pumping up the site more. I still have lots of ideas for it.

http://www.deltamotion.com/peter/Pictures/NewDelta/Delta%20Computer%20Sy...
We have 25 people. In the past it kept me very busy. I worked 12-14 hour days and sometimes I still do when a customer has an emergency. Now the company almost runs in automatic mode so I have time for TT. You may have notice that TT is part of the exercise and recreation program at work. We have good people and that makes it easy for me. I have a partner that actually runs the business side. I am on the engineering side but I don't run anything. Managing engineers and software people is like herding cats. The only thing you can do is to get everyone to decide on a direction and hope it is close to the direction you want to go and remove obstacles.
latency
Submitted by TT energy on 5 September 2010 - 6:05pm.nice looking building and location you work in. As for techno musicial equipment it is a bloody nightmare.
I spent $1000 or more ages ago only to find out that my computer would have latency issues trying to convert analog to digital. Do you know what latency means? It means time, and time in music is everything. I am not talking about waiting for something to produce. I am talking when you press the keyboard and you hear it come out in real time there is a time lag. It was a nightmare for me. I couldn't get my money back. And now even when I record on thekeyboard you can see it is hard to play along to the drum track. I just use a button after which aligns the notes into the correct time. Often the wrong spot! And that is digitial. If I try to record my guitar onto a proper track it is ridiculous to try to play along in analog.
I gave up after making about 15 songs on it a while back. So now since I am making for youtube, you can see I just record and play back through the TV and play along to it and all analog is done by the video camera which is fine since all I want is youtube.
Yesterday I also looked at stuff in the store, think it was Maudio and new I shouldn't buy for a reason - took ages to work out why and then I remembered the latency..........
That's too bad
Submitted by pnachtwey on 7 September 2010 - 12:39am." spent $1000 or more ages ago only to find out that my computer would have latency issues trying to convert analog to digital. Do you know what latency means? "
Yes, I know what latency means, I am a computer nerd, and it is a killer. At the time you bought your device you must not of cared about converting to digital. The thing is that you can't rely on software to any processing. Even hardware introduces delays but they are in nano seconds.
I know people do some pretty neat things with Apple computers. There is a program called garage band that allows recording multiple tracks. I haven't played with it much.

elmer rubber cement for ping pong
Submitted by TT energy on 11 December 2010 - 7:30am.Pnatchwey how are you finding using the elmer rubber cement for the various ping pong rubbers. You have attached and reattached quite frequently, so should have a good idea on how damaging this stuff is to TT equipment by now?
I have had no problems with Elmers Rubber Cement
Submitted by pnachtwey on 11 December 2010 - 8:18am.I used Elmer's Rubber Cement 38+ years ago when I first started buying good rubbers ( Sriver ) and attaching them to blades. I thought Elemer's Rubber cement is the standard way of attaching rubbers untils I found out about the VOC ban ( a bunch of bull ). In the 38 year gap I missed the speed glue era.
I have had no problems detaching or reattaching with Elmer's rubber cement so far and if I ever do I have plenty of acetone ( clear finger nail polish remover will do ) to drip into the space between the blade and rubber until the rubber comes off.
I have only had problems with a LP OX rubber. It stuck to itself and I tore it a little in a non-critical area when peeling it off. I have also had problems with cheap Chinese blades like my LKT Instinct. When I removed the rubber there were little fibers attached to the rubber. The LKT Instinct blade was not sealed. This had not been a problem with my TBS or Samsonov Alpha.
I like my 729 Bomb but I think that is about as cheap as I will ever go when buying a paddle. I still haven't removed rubbers from my Gambler Arylate Carbon, BTY Carbo Balsa X5 or the 729 Bomb.
Note, I have only used water based glue on my TBS. Everything else gets Elmers.
gluing long pimples table tennis
Submitted by TT energy on 11 December 2010 - 4:49pm.Yeah I know what you are saying, because the sheet can fold over itself when using any amount of VOC in particular it rolls its self into nice roll. Water glue or those glue sheets are best for ox. Even with water glue you have to be carefull it doesn't stick together.
