tenergy05.com says:
Ok so I (Boz) have just tried red diamond  with golden cake sponge and know Silvalis (Dan) and want to discuss it here
 Dan has
Daniel says:
 uh
i haven't tried the golden cake version
 haha
 sorry
tenergy05.com says:
I am confused about this rubber because I think it is the first Chinese rubber I can play a tenergy stroke with
I believe they will be pretty similar
Do you think the red diamond is more like tenergy than other Chinese rubbers you have tried?
Daniel says:
yes it's a very springy rubber for a chinese rubber. Slightly sticky topsheet however the sponge has good kick.
yes, definitely closer to Tenergy than other Chinese rubbers so far.
tenergy05.com says:
HOw would you rate the spin in counter loops to tenergy
Daniel says:
Close, but not as much. Possibly due to the less springy sponge, but definitely still has very high spin in counterloops.
tenergy05.com says:
I found the golden cake sponge gcs is the same to be honest.
It is just noticably slower because it doesn't have spring
Daniel says:
Which is good in the short game, which is a common issue with Tenergy
tenergy05.com says:
Yeah I am blown away with how easy I can play short with red diamond rd
There is zero spring because the pips are almost non existant
How much slower do you think the regular rd is compared to 05?
Daniel says:
At the bottom end, maybe 2/3 the speed of T05 mostly due to the slight stick. At the top end it's much closer, you're looking at 85 to maybe even 95% of T05.
tenergy05.com says:
OK my sheet is very tacky - and I imagine gcs makes it even slower - so I would say at the slow end 1/3 and high end about 85%
 If you had to smash?
Daniel says:
Flattish smashing with RD is more similar to T64 than T05 for trajectory, though is slower than both. I would say again, 85-95% speed difference to T05.
tenergy05.com says:
I hound flat hitting about 70% slower because mine has lots of tack and dead sponge.  You were or are using tenergy 05 on your forehand now right?  How do you feel you need to change your strokes to use red diamond coming from using tenergy 05?
If you have had a chance to measure the density or weight of red diamond could comment on that aswell?
Daniel says:
I switched directly from T05 2.1 to RD max sponge on a TBS. The rubber was lighter and my timing changed slightly, but stroke wise there was very little change.
tenergy05.com says:
 Is max 2.1?
Daniel says:
I don't have the exact numbers at the moment, but regular RD max sponge was around 3-5g lighter than T05 2.1mm cut to a TBS shaped blade.
tenergy05.com says:
 because im using 2.1
 rd
Daniel says:
 yes 2.1 is max thickness
tenergy05.com says:
What is your theory on why red diamond plays so much like tenergy? is it the sponge the pips both?
Daniel says:
Definitely both. The sponge is significantly more springy (though reasonably fragile) than previous Chinese sponges and the topsheet is better than older LKT rubbers too. The topsheet is perhaps a bit softer than T05 however it's thicker and seems to spring very well too.
It's a different way of getting to performance similar-ish to T05. The topsheet and sponge seem to have very good synergy, better than the sister sheet Black Power
tenergy05.com says:
I am really excited about this rubber, because I found possibly a very cheap substitute (not as good in my final opinion) but I will try to give red diamond a good go on my forehand.  MOst rubbers I have tried do not excite me but this is special.  Do you have any other comments about it or any questions for me?  and a little of topic and thoughts about the thors hysteria right now?
Daniel says:
Even though Red Diamond is marketed as a backhand rubber, I felt that it worked just as well, if not better on the forehand.  The performance definitely isn't on par with T05 or T64 but it has excellent spin for low speed and high speed shots, medium high-ish throw and perhaps most importantly is around 1/4 the price of Tenergy. It's also more appropriate to compare this to T64 rather than T05 as the throw isn't quite as high.
tenergy05.com says:
I found Thors didn't suit me at all and seemed like another long throwing tacky hard rubber
but not dead feeling like old generation Chinese
Daniel says:
I actually tested a sheet of Thor (Black max) on a friend's re-impact blade recently. Topsheet tack wasn't too bad but the sponge didn't feel like it worked that well under that topsheet. Not really sure about it so far.
tenergy05.com says:
wow dam suprised about the backhand comment - I would also think it is way too slow for backhand (maybe on an off+ blade)
Daniel says:
Red Diamond is definitely worth a shot if you are finding Tenergy difficult to control when you are trying to back off and slow, safe loop.
tenergy05.com says:
OK mate thanks for your time and this quasi interview
Daniel says:
I was using T64 2.1 on the backhand before I tried RD. Definitely slower, but if you have a short, sharp drive-ish action it's not too bad. If you try to spin it with high arc it's a bit slow.
