Iolite viscaria ishlion review comparison - tenergy club vlog 1

TT energy's picture

  • This is the first VLOG created soley for Tenergy Club - hope people out there that love tenergy will make their own, to chuck up here for us all to enjoy.  You don't need to make any thing super professional, it's just nice to see the other tenergy club members in person instead of text.
  • Ok so lets see - Tenergy club VLOG 1

Butterfly Iolite oder Ishlion welche ist besser?

  • I just bought an Iolite, Ishlion and viscaria.  I thought why not record this event when we just get the new table tennis equipment.  Everyone knows how we equipment junkies are, totally excited want to share with our EJ friends... lol maybe you are a closet junkie?
  • Anyway, first watch the video and then I'll post more, hows that for a deal?  feel free to ask questions, oh I am hoping for a reply from megaspin on this issue so there might be a video update to this...
  • Yes there has been a response from Megaspin and I can assure everybody that the guy running the shop is a real human being and very nice and we have resolved this issue completely.  It wasn't Megaspin's fault for the wrong blade weights but they have taken the responsibility of it for the errors of the merchants they order from.  so Big thumbs up to Megaspin.  I will order from them again with full confidence, knowing they have a great service.

Ok so I have been using the blades for a bit with 3 different rubbers - tenergy 05, bryce speed and dhs tg3 blue sponge.  Tenergy 05 on both sides feels best on ishlion still. Bryce speed and tg3 feel best on the iolite.  This I think is primarily to do with the arylate carbon.

Test Best for serving - for sure the IOLITE with tg3 as the arylate is soft with very little forward kick when grazing and the tg3 so tacky you can do magic tricks with it.  There is zero bounce on the tg3, so you really can create amazing sidespin serves.  The t05 also created much better serving with iolite, but the 05 has a bit more forward bounce.

Best for Backhand Punching - without a doubt the ishlion with the bryce speed.  There is very little dwell in both the ishlion's pure carbon and the bryce speed's catapult, both are very quick and not affected by spin.  The iolite though has much more power but just a bit more chaotic.  I would rather use the iolite when I get pushed 3 metres away from the table though, it really out shines the ishlion back there.  From far away from the table I find the ishlion totally perfect on my forehand in terms of power counter looping but on the backhand find it a bit slower especially when they have given you a slower shot.  Big backhand power loops back are still easy with ishlion, but iolite just has the power in its extra thickness and head weight.

Blocking - this one is a bit tougher, I personally found that the iolite actually has much more power at the high end and much slower at the low end and much more affected by spin variatons.  So Iolite is a big no with any of the rubbers, but blocked best with the dead tg3 - you really could slow down a big hard shot at you and still follow it up with a big power shot - although low percentage.  The Bryce speed felt best on the iolite since I needed more spin out of the less spinny rubber but it kind of just balanced out but still felt pretty average for blocking since it could some time rocket forward the faster the in coming ball was.

So I believe blocking with ishlion and tenergy 05 the best.  I say this because it is a harder blade which is not that affected by spin when people hit hard at you it can slow the shot down to a steady speed (not too slow).  In slower shots the tenergy 05 allows a huge variety of blocks from sidespin to rolling the ball back or just plain angling the blade.   Being able to use the right angles means you can block back any super spin coming at you.   The only thing no rubber can neutralise is a speed.  So enough said.

Looping! - My favorite part of the game - tg3 is trash - too slow - too unpredictable.  Bryce speed not enough spin to cause trouble if you are spinner on any of the blades.  So let's look at how tenergy plays on both the iolite and ishlion.

you guessed it - the iolite creates the most spin in loops but having said that they are slow, higer arcing, rarely land deep unless you drive right off the table.  I found it very unpredictable to try to find the right way to get my loops to have more forward kick.  There just didn't to be the middle gear at the right length of looping near the table or away from the table.

The most suprising thing being that the ball actually fell off many times.  I just couldnt feel the shot.  Iolite really has little feeling for me.  It's like not knowing when the next gear will kick in.   So yes Iolite has more gears but you can't choose when they kick in.  Meaning control is terrible for me.

Because of the head weight of the iolite I decided to put some f3 big slam on it.  The balance was great and if you can live with playing with this rubber the whole combination is great.  The sound of both sides was huge.  But f3bs is just too uncontrolled for me. Even on the iolite.  Must say I have never felt f3 play better on any other blade that the iolite, because it gives the f3 speed, and isnt too hard and creates the perfect balance to very light rubbers.  So f3bs both sides on iolite would be a great combination for slow looper and super loud smasher.

more to come soon (about looping with iolite away from the table)

Not sure if I mentioned this but I am hoping to sell the iolite for $130 in Australia only.  It just doesnt suit me.
