tenergy 25 vs 64 compared

These 2 Butterfly Tenergy series rubbers are at the polar extremes (until the FX versions come out).  In this review I intend to focus only on the differences of playing with both these rubbers from my own experience of using them and playing against them.  A review without considering what others say about the rubbers.

tenergy 25 vs 64 durability

The first thing I must say is what I witnessed last night at the club from my opponent who is using a tenergy 25 I sold him.  I was focussed on doing the spiniest shortest serves possible, and they often either landed right on the edge of the table on the second bounce or only just missed it.  My opponent Bryan, went for his usual huge swing smashed into the edge of the table with the biggest amount force and with sound to match, also yelling out in pain as he hit fingers just as hard.  I suddenly thought oh no, either he has broken his bones and probably shredded the rubber.  To my surprise there was only a soft graze line across the topsheet of the rubber which was looked as though the rubber will be just as playable as had been.

This impact I can assure you, if it had been the tenergy 64 or any other even softer topsheet like a tensor would have totally ripped the topsheet off the sponge and have left a gaping hole.

Tenergy 25's huge pips give more density and much more surface of the pips to glue to the medium hard sponge.  All harder sponged rubbers last longer than soft ones as well.

tenergy 25 vs 64 style

Bryan has used the Tenergy 25 longer than me and I haven't played anyone as much as him that uses the Tenergy 25.  His game has evolved considerably, to a really powerful third ball attack which I rarely can counter.  His weakness is his countering of the fifth ball once someone blocks the ball away he rarely lands it.

This to me is the essential difference people don't talk about.  Tenergy 64 I find much to soft to be a really great at the table third ball weapon.  The more I played with Tenergy 25 the more I learnt to hit and drive the ball.  Where as with the Tenergy 64 the more I used it the more I wanted to take steps backwards and let them have a go at the ball for me to go for the spectacular long big stroke power killers or at worst lob till they dropped.

I will add more to this as I have time.
