twiddle king
Playing yesterday was not really fun but it was interesting.
Am suffering with a flu at the moment but still went for a short hit to fairtex to play a new guy - old TT buddy of Ed's called Hans (from Austria I think). Older very tall guy.
He is a different kind of player that I only managed to get one game off in a few matches.
Left handed twiddling allround player with a very very difficult serve to get onto the table. To make things worse the ball was of lower standard (the printing on the ball was not black - so less contrast to see the spin) and the lighting is was too dim to see it as well.
I would be able to adjust to his already difficult lefthanded backhanded serves, but add to it that some he would serve with anti spin rubber and inability to see the label on the ball made playing to say the least unenjoyable.
His rubber I think Pnatchwey would be interested in, I don't remember the name but it is new and expensive. it is pimples in with no real sponge in my opinion just a thin looking glue sheet. The outer surface was criscrossed with slightly upraised lines, he said was legal. Didn't look like anything I have seen before.
He had an allround game with lots of chopping and some attacking shots especially when you misread his serves and pop them up. I don't think there was anything amazingly great about his game play after getting past his serves which easily got him 70% of his points outright.

The anti sounds like Joola Timeless
Submitted by pnachtwey on 15 January 2012 - 5:50pm.Joola Timeless is a new anti that is more expensive than Tenergy. It is supposed to be a very difficult anti to play against but the word is that it doesn't hold up well.
The raised lines reduce the contact area to reduce the grip. The thing about anti is that it can play more like a normal rubber when you hit the ball hard enough to get the ball to sink into the sponge.
Boz, I think not being able to see the ball hurt a lot.
Tomorrow I play my sparring partner that lobs and fishes.
Submitted by pnachtwey on 16 January 2012 - 4:55pm.He simply gets back everything and waits for me to make a mistake. I am thinking of getting out my Mark V and YAP and simply giving this guy a dose of his own medicine Amelie Solja style. That is if it doesn't drive me nuts first. I can chop with YAP. Pushes and getting back serves is easy. I just need to out last this guy. The real trick will be twiddling and chopping and blocking back some balls with the YAP on my FH.
On Saturday I played my other sparring partner who is a looper that can brush loop with his BH. He seemed to have more problem with me chopping with my YAP rather than my blocking his loops and relying on the little spin reversal to put his balls into the net.
If the Mark V and YAP don't' work I will go back to my Ball Whacker.
I know that Amelie Solja uses a more frictionless anti than YAP but YAP will do. I do have BTY Super Anti which is a lot slicker and gets more spin reversal but that is cut for my TBS and I don't want to change it right now.
